Does dog off furniture spray really work?
Even though our 9 year old lab has 2 nice beds, she prefers the sofa when we're at work.
If I don't need to spend $$$ on a scat mat, that would be great. The more cost effective solution I've found is the No-Stay Furniture Spray (for Dogs):

For those who have tried it/use it: does it work? I saw mixed reviews online.

spray didn't work for me.
putting loose newspapers all over the furniture often does work. They don't usually like the sound.

Hmmm... sounds a little fishy to me. They don't say *how* it actually keeps the dogs off. Does it irritate their paws or nose? Does it just give off a scent that is unappealing?
Do your dogs go on the furniture at all when you are home? If so, you might want to try some "impersonal" corrections, like a soup can with pennies or an airhorn, when you are home. That way they will associate the "correction" (an irritating noise) with the action, and not with you.

the cheapest solution of all?
prevent access to the couch!
flip the cushions up at a 45 degree angle, or remove them all together when you are going to leave. and if thats not possible, put blockers on the couch, such as a few laundry hampers or folding chairs. or, babygate the dog out of the room , putting the dog beds with her.
from most experiences, the spray does not work. pet smart does sell a cheap noise deterrant. its a motion activated vibration alarm. it sits on the couch, and when the cushions move, it starts making an alarming, vibrating sound, enough to startle the dog. its not expensive at all.

As a dog trainer I can tell you, the results are mixed at best - and sometimes you can smell it too, ikes. The scat mat is usually a sure thing with a lab. It really doesn't hurt them, I've touched it - its like a carpet static shock.
www.petedge.com is a cheaper place to buy one. Pet Smart has them for under 30.00.
Your only other option is to line the couch with big boxes and stuff but dogs figure out when the stuff is on/off vs.the magic lightening bolt that the couch emits all by itself.
cheers.

I bought this a month ago and tried it and it did not work! I have two dogs, 1 is a cavalier and the other is a lab. They seemed to like the smell and it made them get on the sofa more so please dont buy it!
I used a bitter lemon spray and my dog hated it!
