I'm going to foster a rabbit from the Humane Society and they will provide me with a cage, but I need some sort of exercise pen so I can give it some unsupervised exercise and not worry about it chewing on all of my furniture or cords. I want to potentially just use it as a gate and block it in the kitchen (the only place with no carpet) initially until I make sure it is litter box trained and then let it loose in part of the house. Basically, I want something that will stand by itself but I can also change the shape. I want to use it as a gate to block off part of the room and as a closed pen. Anyone have any suggestions? Since I’m just fostering the bunny, I don’t want to buy an expensive puppy pen but I also don’t want something the bunny will chew through or end up eating and causing harmful side effects (I worry about cheap plastic). Anyone have any ideas on what will be flexible and inexpensive? I’m also not sure how large the bunny will be, so I need something that is probably at least 24” or 36” high. I’m completely clueless as to what I can use aside from buying a semi-expensive puppy pen. Let me know if you have any ideas! The cheaper (and simpler) the better.

I'm thinking of getting my dog an exercise pen for when I'm at work. My dog is a 4 pound chihuahua so he needs to run around instead of being in a crate. What size exercise pen should I get him? What could I put on the bottom to prevent him from causing "accidents" on my floor? Does anyone else do this?

My puppy has found a way to get out of her indoor exercise pen when I'm not there. The pen is very heavy, sits on tile floor and doesn't seem to move at all from the position I put it in, so I don't think she is going under it. It is possible she is either climbing out or jumping out, but since I don't keep her in the pen when I'm home, I've never seen her do it. She is a puppy and is being housetrained and teething, so she needs to stay in the pen when I'm not there. My problem is, due to the shape of my kitchen the pen is a long rectangle. All the covers I can find to buy are square shaped and will not work on my pen. I would like to build something to put on top of the pen that will be strong enough to keep her in, but also couldn't hurt her if she hits it or it falls. Does anyone have any suggestions? If you are going to post anything judgemental, don't bother as I already have talked to a vet about it and have been told that it IS humane as long as I give her lots of attention and long walks when I'm home.

This will be kind of long... But I have a siberian husky that was found heartworm positive when we adopted her. We recently started her treatment, she received her first injection on the 15th of february. As many people know, she has to remain "calm" for at least 6 weeks after treatment. In her case, that means she has to stay in her kennel, or she will get too active. You know how sibes are ;) Well she is also quite the escape artist I have discovered. We never crated her before this treatment, and she did really well at first, but today I left for 2 hours and came home to see the kennel dragged from the kitchen into the living room, one side was completely off and my husky is sitting there smiling at me... It is imperitive to her life that she stay in there, but she clearly cant do that. I need help! What can I do? Or put the kennel into the guest room so she has no room to try to escape? I just want her to stay calm so she lives, its for her own good! But she is not taking it! WE never had to crate train her. We never needed it, but based on how she reacted when we initially started to crate her, I suspect her previous owner may have had her crate trained. She is fine when I am home, but when I leave, she tries to escape. Also, if you are going to suggest I just give my dog free rein and potentially let her die because of that, please feel free to just not post. I want my dog to survive and she needs to be kenneled to live, so thats what I need advice on.

I bought a second hand one from ebay and I am worried my new puppy might get parvo and other dog diseases from using another dog's old pen. Can such diseases transfer like this? Will ordinary disinfectant get rid of anything that might be there?

Crates or pens? Which would better, most people have crates but they seem kinda small to me and would cramp my dog she is in desperate need of one and I would like to know what would be best for her. I'm sure many of you are like my wife and I, and only have a precious few hours a day to really do anything. After work and sleeping, we usually only have 3 to 4 hours a day to devote to anything else. So then, while you sleep or work, where does your dog stay?? We have a little Yorkie. We keep him in an exercise pen in the garage. It has more space than a crate, so we figure that's good for him. How about you?
